Full-Time Editing Faculty

Paul Hettel, Program Director phettel@colum.edu.
Filmmaker, screenwriter and Professor Film and Video at Columbia since 1981. Writer and director of numerous short films and two feature films: Terminal Moraine -- filmmed on location in Italy and his most recent feature Sound of Yellow filmed in Lodz, Poland. His areas of specialization are: Production, Editing, Screenwriting and Italian Cinema.

Brigid Maher bmaher@colum.edu
Co-founder and president of Tiny Leaps Productions -- a non profit arts organization, she has directed film and theater productions in the U.S., the West Bank and Oman. Recently, she wrote, directed and edited the feature film Adrift in the Heartland -- shot in Palestine and Chicago. Her short films have been featured on PBS (Image Union) and the National Poetry Video Festival while winning recognition and funding from the Anti-Defamation League, City of Chicago, Marshall Center for the Arts and the Washington Commission for the Humanities.

Sharon Zurek szurek@colum.edu
BA, Columbia College. During her 25 years experience producing, directing and editing, she has won funding and a variety of awards for her independent and professional work. As the owner of Black Cat Productions in Chicago, she recently produced and directed Kevin's Room a one-hour dramatic film that premiered on UPN-TV. She was also the editor on several independent feature films, including Stray Dogs, Constructing Mulligan's Stew, The Chameleon and The Orphan Saint.

Dennis Keeling dkeeling@colum.edu
As Post-Production Manager, Dennis oversees the operation of the Post-Production Center. His interests focus on Avid editing, Telecine and the operation of the Machine room. Dennis teaches Advanced Editing: Avid Media and Film Composer and Production IV: Avid Xpress. Dennis is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, TV and Film. He also holds a Master of Fine Art degree in Film/Video from Columbia College-Chicago.

Bryan McHenry, Advanced Editing Coordinator bmchenry@colum.edu
Bryan McHenry grew up in Memphis, TN where he earned a Master's of Music in Voice. He sang for three seasons with Opera Memphis, during which time he began directing. He is currently a graduate student and full-time employee of The Post Production Center of The Film and Video Department at Columbia College, Chicago. Two of the films he has made while at Columbia, DRAWING GIRLS, and THE CUCUMBER CHRONICLES have played in gay and lesbian film festivals world wide, including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Toronto, and Milan.

Coming from a background of Psychology and Human Development before getting into film, his focus is on understanding and integrating the way the mind perceives with how stories are told. He came to the Post Production Center from the Documentary Center where he was the technical coordinator. Currently he's in post production working on a documentary about the oral tradition of the Lakota Sioux through the teachings of a Lakota Medicine man. He also teaches Editing the Narrative Film and Editing the Documentary part-time at Columbia in the Film/ Department.
